1. Overnight Futures Snapshot
Equity futures open the week in a holding pattern ahead of Tuesday's CPI print. S&P 500 futures via SPY trade at $679.46 (–0.07%) — essentially unchanged. Nasdaq futures via QQQ nudge slightly positive at $611.07 (+0.14%), while the Dow via DIA underperforms modestly at $479.25 (–0.55%). Small-caps via IWM slip to $261.30 (–0.25%).
The structural backdrop has improved materially over the past week. SPY and QQQ are confirmed bullish — trading above their 20-week EMAs for the second straight week. That posture shift is real and it matters. But the overnight action says it plainly: no one is pressing into new positions ahead of a binary data event. The tape is consolidating, not distributing.
SPY's 20W EMA sits at $671.45. At $679.46, the structural cushion is about $8 — modest but intact. QQQ trades comfortably above its own 20W support. The session's tone is cautious and appropriate given what's coming Tuesday morning.
